The Laboratorio de Biología de Cnidarios (Labic) was founded by Dr. Mauricio O. Zamponi in 1990 in Departamento de Ciencias Marinas, Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales, Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata. Dr. Zamponi (now retired), has promoted the study of different groups of cnidarians, leading to the LABIC is nationally and internationally recognized, constituting one of the few labs worldwide dedicated to the study of these organisms. Uninterruptedlly, the LABIC has developed an intense activity, not only scientific, but also academic . Human resources training was a priority in the lab since its inception, numerous degree and doctoral thesis have been produced.. Likewise, several researchers have formed in the LABIC and now they carried out their activities in Argentina , or other countries. The LABIC have produced a big number of scientific publications, which are consulted and cited by worldwide researchers. At present several research projects are developed in the LABIC and cooperation with colleagues from other institutions are actively promoted. The LABIC is part of the Institute of Coastal and Marine Research (IIMyC) dependent of the Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata (UNMdP) and the National Council of Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET), Argentina.
